Prior to the modernist design movement, the emphasis was placed on furniture as an ornament. With new resources and advancements, the focus has been shifted from objects created as decorative objects to that promote both functionality, accessibility, and production.

The idea of an accessible design, to anyone, applies not only to industrial mechanics but also to the aesthetics of architecture and furniture. The modernist design seems to have evolved from a combination of influences: technically innovative materials and new manufacturing methods.
